RunwayHeadingLengthHead / tailwindCrosswind
Positive headwind is favorable. Crosswind side is relative to an aircraft facing down the runway.

Wind comparison, not a runway clearance. Confirm current ATIS/AWOS, ATC instructions, NOTAMs, runway availability, aircraft performance and personal crosswind limits. This view does not check closures, runway conditions or declared distances. Runway data is community maintained; geometry is schematic and is not a taxi chart. METAR wind and runway headings are compared in true degrees. Light, variable or old winds may not identify a useful preference.

Data & calculation notes

Runway endpoints, true headings and published lengths: OurAirports open data. Built-in airports were retrieved September 8, 2026; other airports load the current dataset on demand. Endpoint positions are drawn proportionally, with exaggerated runway widths and separated labels for legibility. Published lengths and endpoint coordinates may differ. Headwind = speed × cos(wind from − runway heading); crosswind = speed × sin(wind from − runway heading). Gust components assume the reported mean direction. A reported directional range adds a worst-case crosswind/tailwind envelope. This is not a prediction of instantaneous wind.

Live METARs: Iowa Environmental Mesonet, with NWS raw-METAR fallback for supported stations. Data may be delayed; no weather is fabricated. Reports older than 90 minutes do not produce a live recommendation. Internet access is needed for current weather and additional airport data. If a feed is unavailable, paste an airport METAR or use What if.
